Rosalie is still in the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) and she is being weaned off the wires slowly but surely. She no longer has the breathing tube, which is great. She is responsive to us, but still very grogy. There are no pain nerves in the brain, so she is probably having pain around the incision, but not in the brain itself. If she does seem to be writhing at all they can give her medication to manage the pain.
We reviewed the MRI which shows that they removed all of the tumor! This is good news. At the same time there may be microscopic traces, so given the malignancy of the tumor (this is not verified until we get the pathology back, but based on the characteristics of the tumor our neurosurgeon and oncologist believe it be this kind of tumor called a medullablastoma) we will probably need to go through chemotherapy. But right now we want to focus on her recovery in the ICU.
If you don't hear from me for a while, it's because there is nothing much to report but slow and steady progress. It looks like we will be in the PICU through Sunday at least. Then we will probably move to another room for a little while.
