Rosalie is going to be admitted this afternoon for the next round of chemotherapy. As soon as she is properly hydrated, she will receive Cytoxan and Vincristine. Please pray that these agents help to cure her of this cancer.
This morning Rosalie had an audiogram which showed that Rosalie is not responding as well to some of the very high frequencies. These frequencies do not affect her ability to talk intelligibly or necessitate the use of a hearing aid. But the high frequencies can be the first to go, so this could be indicative of later hearing loss. This is not perfect news, but there is no way of knowing if her hearing will stay the same or get any worse. The only oto-toxic chemotherapy that Rosalie received was the Cisplatin, which was only administered in the first four rounds. So these hearing results will not change the course of her cancer therapy. But they do mean that we will need to be vigilant about having Rosalie screened.
I was really upset when the audiologist started explainiing all this to me - but I realize that the most important part of this whole journey is to cure her. And the good news is that should Rosalie start to lose hearing she would be a candidate for a hearing aid.
