Dr. Day and Rosalie just after taking off the dressing

Hooray!

Many of you emailed or called regarding Rosalie's eye surgery. Thank you so much for all your well wishes!

The surgery was on Tuesday morning at CPMC. I signed a consent that indicated that the surgery was for the left eye. I looked at Rosalie's left eye just to make sure that was the one that needed surgery. I had to chuckle - surgery on the right eye - that would be bad news. Rosalie did a fantastic job. The staff in the OR seemed pretty impressed with her calm manner in the midst of an environment that might be foreign to most children. The blue scrubs, face masks, and hair nets don't phase Rosie. The surgery took exactly an hour, just as Dr. Day had told us.

Post-op she had a dressing on her left eye that needed to stay on for 24 hours. Her eye seemed to irritate her, but she didn't appear to be in much pain. We gave her Tylenol around the clock, but nothing more potent than that.

On Wednesday, I took her back to Dr. Day to remove the dressing. Dr. Day thinks the eye looks great. The white of her eye is completely red, which is normal. The whole way home Rosalie kept saying, "Let's go home and show Daddy my eye!"

We will return to Dr. Day's office in one week, and then in one month. At these visits we will be better able to tell if Rosalie has achieved binocular vision.

Good work, Rosie!
