Still at UCSF

Rosalie went in for a three day chemo treatment last Wednesday - but we still haven't left.

On the day she was supposed to leave (Friday), she spiked a very high fever. So her cultures were sent out and it looks like she had another bacterial infection - this time of the streptococcus genus (that would be a genus, right Ms. Rand?).
The culture is still growing so we are waiting on the exact species. They don't want us to go home until we know the species because they want to make sure that the antibiotic she is being treated with (vancomycin) is the precise one to use. The good news is that Rosalie's fever went away quickly and she is much more comfortable now. By the way, this is the kind of infection that she "gives to herself." We all have streptococcus in our bodies (in the gut and mouth).

Rosalie will probably need a blood transfusion tomorrow anyway. Her red blood cell count is dropping and she is beginning to get lethargic and pale.

We had a wonderful visit from Uncle Paul. Rosalie adores him and the nurses couldn't get over how similar he and Mark are. They kept doing double-takes when they came in the room.

Now Nonnie is in town - yeah!
